The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation
The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation, founded by David Wolfe, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to planting edible, fruitful trees and plants that will benefit the earth and all living beings. Its primary mission is to plant and help others plant a collective total of 18 billion fruit trees across the world and encourage their growth under organic standards.
The organization provides education and resources for those interested in planting fruit trees. The program also runs multiple planting programs that provide fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables to communities in need.
The health benefits of fruit have long been known and 3 to 5 servings of fruit and or vegetables are recommended for daily nutrition. For more information on the nutritional value of fruits and vegetables, visit the US FDA website.
One of the foundation’s programs, the “Fruit Relief” program, plants fruit trees in areas where the harvest will most benefit hungry, poor, and needy people—such as homeless shelters, low-income communities, and international hunger relief sites. The program not only makes donations of fresh product to various food relief foundations, but it also distributes fruit trees directly to needy families so that they have an ongoing source of nutrition in their backyards.
